Phase 2 Rookie Considerations Due

WASHINGTON, NC — The Carl Spackler Open announced Saturday that rookie registrations are accepted until April 2023, but Phase 2 rookie nominations are due prior to January 30. The annual event will add a maximum of 5 rookies as part of Phase 2.

The Captains Club has long believed rookies are critical to growing the event. "Everyone was a rookie at some point," said Captains Club member Greg Garrett. "Where they should be prioritized on the roster is certaintly debatable, but we have agreed as many as five rookies should begin Phase 2 acceptance."

All potential rookies can create a Poststats.com account anytime and enter scorecards. Referrals must submit rookie nominations to the Captain’s Club prior to Phase 1 for prioritized consideration in Phase 2. Rookie considerations not submitted to the Captain’s Club will be added to the bottom of Phase 3.

"Rookies accepted as part of Phase 2 will not exceed 5 golfers," says Captains Club member Matt Pritchard. "Referrals are expected to sell their rookie to the Carl Spackler Open for Phase 2 acceptance. Otherwise the rookie will be added to the bottom of Phase 3. "Why your friend or family member instead of someone else?" asked Pritchard. "Recommendations will be discussed by the Captains Club. We will select 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 for Phase 2."

The remaining rookies will be added to the end of Phase 3 in order of contribution grade. Ties will discussed at the Captains Club meeting on January 30."

A 15-minute YouTube video is available for both referrals and rookies. Search Carl Spackler Open. Look for Rookies & Referrals Edition.

"We all have potential rookies who want to participate," says Captains Club Jason Ridgeway. "It is our intention to make sure a process exists for your brother, father, son, or friend to join us."

Nominated rookies with posted scorecards, a uniform profile photo uploaded, and an understanding of the basic golf rules elevate their chances of being added as part of Phase 2. Rookies are required to post 4+ scorecards prior to the event.

The Captains Club will hold another meeting before February 1. The Roster Worksheet, an active worksheet during the registration period, will be updated with rookies. The 2023 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled to be played in 5 months in North Carolina. There are 80 to 88 golfers expected to participate in the 22nd annual event. The first set of participant options will begin during Phase 2 in February.
