Draft NOOG Released

April 1, 2005

POTTSVILLE, PA — With 68 days left, the NOOG points have been drafted for the 5th annual Carl Spackler Open Championship. Although, the points will be updated and finalized at the last possible moment, all player points were set as draft on Sunday from the Spackler Business Office.

The final NOOG points will be released days before the tournament as players continue to get last minute rounds submitted. "I really think this tournament will be tighter than ever", said Greg Long. "I worry about a few rookies that only submit the minimum required scorecards, but I challenge anyone to give me a favorite for this year's major."

Slick's comments come during an On Tour Championship Leaderboard that he plans to have tighter than ever. "With the exception of a player or two, the estimated 75 player leaderboard will be within 15 points of each other."

As of today, several players are geared towards receiving plenty of points. Rookies Surinder Punia and Marc Long stand to inherit one point for triple bogey.  Other members to receive the needed triple bogey point are Shawn Long, Kevin Long, Sr., the worst putter in Spackler history Rick Dosky, and 2004 Scramble winner Mike Lewis.  The 2003 Carl Spackler Outfit wearer Jon Munksgard is also scheduled for a triple bogey point.

"These guys are really being given a gift", said Matt Davis. "It is truely amazing how the major championship gives anyone the ability to win the coveted Golden Jacket.  I think Dosky is getting 4 points for bogey."

The other side of the coin has rookie Marty Zabonik and Ravinder Bakshi asking, "Where are my points?" Member Jason Ridgeway, Zabonik, and Bakshi are currently scheduled to not receive points for triple bogey, double bogey, or bogey. Just one lone point for par.  "These guys play scratch and Ridgeway almost won last year with 1 point for par," says Don Creighton from his home in Staten Island, NY.  "If these guys place in the Top 10, we all need to bend over and grab our ankles," says Mike Davis of Warren, PA.  "We certainly cannot complain about the system."

The 2005 Carl Spackler Open is scheduled to begin on June 9 with an optional practice round on June 8. As players continue to get ready for this year's first major championship, only the Mountain Valley Golf Course knows the winner.
