Down to 65; Spear Out

April 29, 2005

POTTSVILLE, PA — Fresh off his stunning registration and letter of intent, Dean Spear withdrew Wednesday from the 2005 Carl Spackler Open.  The withdraw sets the Spackler field back to 65.

A rookie from New Jersey, Spear became the fourth player to withdraw from this year's Open Championship. Jim Zavinski, Tom McCauley, and Jon Marti have withdrawn leaving the field dry going into May. Trent Cooper signed immediately after hearing about an opening early in April.

"The overwhelming experience of the Open Championship makes my stomach tingle, but other circumstances are best for everyone involved," Spear said. "I hope to return next year."

"We would have been thrilled to have Dean join us in Pottsville," Brian Flanagan said. "There are obviously more important things for Dean in June."

The 2005 Carl Spackler Open begins in 40 days. There are currently 65 players in the field with several spots open. It really looks like tournament staff will be busy over the next few weeks.
