Crapper Award Returns

May 25, 2005

POTTSVILLE, PA — So you think you play like crap. Well the Carl Spackler Open returns with the Crapper Trophy to the Awards Presentation for 2005. The Crapper will be given to the worst player in Carl Spackler Open history and Mike Watkeys has been removed from contention. Players completing at least 3 full tournaments are eligible for the toilet.

"This is not fair," says Glenn Hoffert of Herndon, VA. "The numbers must be screwed up because I don't play like Crap." Hoffert is currently riding in 2nd to last place with 2 tournaments and 349 ranking points. The rankings track average finish per tournament based on actual place on each leaderboard. The latest tournament is given a little more weight than the previous.

Hoffert placed 20th in a 2003 field of 32 players.  He finished 38th last year with 48 players.

"Thank god players like Jon Munksgard are in this thing," says Hoffert. "I think my 349 ranking gives me quite an edge on Munksgard."

The 2003 Carl Spackler, Jon Munksgard, has a very low 162 points.  He played 32 of 32 in 2003 and fell late last year taking 35th place of 48.  "That is crap for sure," says Mike Lewis.  "He is going to need a strong 2005 to get out of that hole."

"This ranking system will identify the worst player over many handicapped tournaments," says Chairman Greg Long. "Our handicapping system is pretty accurate so to win this trophy, your tournament game belongs in a toilet." The NOOG system is designed to level the playing field regardless of skill level.

Mike Trojanowski and Tom McCauley round out the Top 5 as they both wore the Carl Spackler Outfit in previous years. The below list contains ranking points, place/field, and year. 1. Jon Munksgard, 162 ranking, 32/32(2003), 35/48(2004) 2. Tom McCauley, 316 ranking, 3/9(2001), 18/18(2002), 20/32(2003), 41/48(2004) 3. Mike Trojanowski 330 ranking, 9/9(2001), 1/18(2002), 31/32(2003), 33/48(2004) 4. Don Creighton, 336 ranking, 8/9(2001), 11/18(2002), 9/32(2003), 42/48(2004) 5. Glenn Hoffert 349 ranking, 19/32(2003), 37/48(2004) 6. Jamie Myers 359 ranking, 7/9(2001), 17/18(2002), 10/32(2003), 21/48(2004)

Don Creighton and Glenn Hoffert are the only two players Outfit free. "If someone wants odds for June, I would take one of these guys for the Carl Spackler Outfit", says Tom McCauley. "Both guys have not performed. Sounds like a date with destiny."

The 2005 Carl Spackler Open begins play in 14 days. The field of players will travel to Barnesville, PA for the 3 day tournament.
