Schone Wins Tournament

GALENA, OH — Jon Marti, a rookie of 2006, shot an average 21-over par and 74.9 points per round. This stellar play has earned a surprise first place finish in the season-long 2008 Virtual Tournament.

His win over son Kyle by 0.3 points per round and John Mello by 2.2 points per round. Jon, a.k.a. Jonno, falls to 28th position using USGA Handicapping.

"The eagle has officially landed," says Schone of his victory. "There is only one thing better than beating Chad by the smallest of margins. That would be the Iowa football program beating up on Penn State again."

Schone carded a 1-under 71 late in the season at Royal American Golf Links. The stellar August round included 4 birdies and included 92 points. He followed up that round with another September round at Byron Hills Golf Course in Illinois. Schone leaped into first place with two eagles and two birdies among his 95 points.

"He rocketed up the Leaderboard late in the season," says Matt Pritchard. "He truely came out of nowhere."

Schone entered August with 66 points per round. The 92 and 95 point rounds pushed him above everyone else.

"The tournament was tight all the way to the end," says Captains Club member Don Creighton. "With a field of 82 participants, you are never safe out there."

The Virtual Tournament is a season-long tournament that started back on January 1, 2009. All registered players will receive new points next week as the 2010 Virtual Tournament begins.
