Zabonik sets Record
August 5, 2003
POWELL, OH — Marty Zabonik, who just turned 32 in June has set a Carl Spackler record by shooting the first and only 1-under par round 71 at the difficult and private Scioto Reserve in Powell, Ohio. What is more impressive is the 75 NOOG points that he scored and movement he has made on the On Tour Championship Leaderboard to the #2 spot.
"You better watch yourself Mr. Nightwine", said a confident Zabonik. "I noticed that you have been dominating an easy Safari course and scoring quite well. I also noticed that you withdrew from the little tournament at the difficult Shaker Run this weekend." Safari is receiving only 3 bonus NOOG points due to its short yardage and lack of hazards. Zabonik continued to threaten Nightwine. "Everytime you look over the ball, remember that I am right behind you waiting for you to slip up."
Marty played his 1-under round on Saturday starting with a birdie on #1. He came into the clubhouse for a hot dog at 1-under and never looked back shooting an impressive even par on the back nine. Marty's impressive round consisted of 5 birdies and 4 bogeys. Marty has since moved up and plans to receive many votes for Player of the Year.
Marty leaped over Greg Garrett and Greg Long to the #5 spot causing a stir around the Tour. "If Zabonik only put this kind of effort into achieving kitchen passes and attending the Official Championship", said Chairman Greg Long. "There are even rumors he drinks alcohol until 2 or 3am." These are the kinds of characteristics that make a perfect Spackler Championship and potentially a Player of the Year.
