PERU, IN — Unofficial registration is underway for the 8th Annual Carl Spackler Open with accompanying activities to be held June 5-7, 2008. Mike Trojanowski of the Captains Club and Senior Member Marty Zabonik took a moment to remind the present members of the existing opportunity to register potential rookies early.

"What appears to be an 9 month notice is only 70-day notification for rookie tournament registration," said Mike Trojanowski. "We require anyone participating in a Carl Spackler Open Championship to registration online and have a minimum of 4 scorecards posted before June. We do not negotiate with simple requirements setup to ensure a successful tournament week."

The projected attendance for the next event is expected to be 60 before topping off with rookies. The bulk of rookie attendance has been statistically and traditionally based on distance to venue. The shorter the better, which continues to baffle Trojanowski and Marty Zabonik.

"I have heard quite a bit of talk in Columbus this summer," said Zabonik as he took over the podium. "I have noticed a record number of summer registrations including 4 from Columbus prior to the venue announcement. Ohio gets even stronger. Very pleased."

The tournament registrations have increased by 300 percent during the 90 day summer period led by Ohio. Rookie registrations from Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania also occured. "There is a lot of rookie rumors, but usually only half officially register," said Zabonik. "About half of those will sign in December with 4 kitchen passes, which would statistically yield 3 or 4 new rookies."

The Captains Club has provided a list of expectations for rookies considering their first major. The list includes:

· He can shoot 139 strokes or less per round on average.

· He can financially commit to a 4-day golf trip 6 months in advance.

· He is not annoyed by alcohol consumption around him.

· He likes to play golf and meeting new people.

· He reads email and visits our website at least monthly for updates.

· He understands a golf trip is generally hundreds of miles from his house.

· He realizes the tournament encourages local police to place drunk golfers driving vehicles in jail.

· He can respect all members and vendors plus follow very simple directions.

Rookies are encouraged to register online with Poststats.com and then request membership to the Carl Spackler Open.

"I am very excited about the influx of potential rookies prior to August," added Trojanowski. "I think our tournament field has occupational expertise in everything except plumming, fireman, garbage man, grade school teacher, and road construction contractor."

The Carl Spackler Open Championship is scheduled for June 5 with an optional practice round on June 4. The annual and required tournament fee is a record-high $359 and due in the mail prior to April 26.
