Boulder Creek Delayed

STREETSBORO, OH — The Captains Club announced today that Boulder Creek Golf Club, which was part of the 2011 venue list, has been moved back to 2012-2015 Carl Spackler Open venue lists. The 4 1/2 star course is located just 50 feet from Interstate 80. The facility was identified in 2010 and was considered a very strong contender for the 11th major championship.

"Boulder Creek is a solid venue opportunity," said Greg Long, Chairman of the Captains Club. "However, Conklin Players Club and Mountain Valley Golf Course will provide a better fit in 2011. We have decided not to eliminate Boulder Creek, but push it back on the future venue calendar."

Boulder Creek joins Old Silo (Kentucky) and Riverfront (Virginia) as realistic future sites to host the annual event.

Boulder Creek Golf Club is an upscale golf course with the superb conditions and atmosphere like a resort. The 4 1/2 star ranked course by Golf Digest throughout its life (2002-2010) is now the 3rd best golf course in the state according to Golf Week Magazine. The Joe Salemi designed masterpiece is located in southeastern Cleveland and 30 yards from Turnpike Interstate 80.

"I think Poplar Grove's brother lives in Ohio," says Long. "The terrain and conditions at Boulder Creek are almost identical to Poplar Grove. The hole design is not only strong, but the property is beautiful."

The championship course is located in Streetsboro and opened in 2002. This spectacular course lies in heavily wooded terrain with mature pines and oaks covering hills, marshes and deep lakes. While bunkered conservatively, there are plenty of grassy hollows and bumps in addition to the challenging terrain of water, elevation changes and mature pines to keep you on your toes.

"The 11th hole is my personal favorite," says Long of the short downhill par 4. "One of the most beautiful holes ever played."

The decision to eliminate Boulder Creek in 2011 opens the door to the Carl Spackler Open being held just yards from Interstate 81 and the Appalachian Mountains.

A Mountain Valley selection would return the Carl Spackler Open to a previous venue for the first time ever. A Conklin Players Club selection would most likely provide the best conditions in the history of the tournament.

The 2011 Carl Spackler Open will be held June 9-12. There are 70 to 90 participants expected for the 11th annual event. A decision on venue will be announced prior to November 1.
