Deck Parties Planned

January 9, 2011

BARNESVILLE, PA — The Captains Club announced today that Mountain Valley Golf Course will host two deck parties this June. Both parties, which come with live entertainment, is included for participants of the 2011 Carl Spackler Open.

The golf course includes a large chalet-style clubhouse that sits on the highest piece on the property. The Friday and Sunday night parties are hosted on a 5,000 square foot deck over looking the 9th hole of the Mountain course and 18th hole of the Valley course. Both parties begin at 6:00PM and last until 10:00PM.

Mountain Valley general manager Ken Huebner said the happy hour became so popular the clubhouse deck was expanded from 3,000 square feet to 5,000 square feet. A smaller deck was added to the second floor.

The Friday night party, Madness on the Mountain, attracts approximately 1,000 people and causes a waiting line into the parking lot to pay the $5.00 cover charge. The more relaxed Sunday night party attracts hundreds of older patrons with more dancing and fun.

"I just looked on mapquest and are you serious about Barnesville, PA," said a extremely skeptical Jeremy Myers back in August 2004. "This location does not sound like a good idea for the Carl Spackler Open."

The 10-year member of the event no longer questions the location.

Myers said of the 2005 Carl Spackler Open, "That place [Mountain Valley Golf Course] is simply unbelievable. People throw the word 'unbelievable' around, but that place is truely unbelievable. I know this because nobody back home believes the truth about my four days on the mountain."

Kyle Marti, the 8-year senior member of the event, revisited the golf course on June 11, 2010. He was asked for his updated opinion on the golf course deck party. "I was there last year with skepticism," said Kyle Marti. "The previous Spackler [June 2005] was really incredible and set the bar high. This recent visit was as good or better than 5 years ago."

The first deck party, Madness on the Mountain, will be held on Friday, June 10 after the Yeungling Brewery Tour and Round 1 play. The second deck party will be held on Sunday, June 12 after Round 3 play and Awards Dinner.

Coach bus service will be provided for all participants on both Friday and Sunday. The departing schedule is provided on the website and will be provided in the daily pairing sheets.

The 2011 Carl Spackler Open is a 54-hole golf tournament with annual practice round and optional 4-man Scramble. The field of players is expected to be 70 to 90 golfers. Jay Glover, Mark Wray, Don Creighton, Pat McElroy, and Glenn Hoffert (receipents of the 2006-2010 Carl Spackler Outfit) are near locks for 2011 attendance. Registration continues until January 31.
