Spackler is Free (Again)
February 27, 2011
WASHINGTON, DC — The Captains Club formally announced today the 11th annual golf tournament will be once again be free. With assistance from Nancy Pelosi, John Boehner, and Barack Obama, congressional leaders in Washington announced a deal last December on an economic stimulus package that would give each employeed participant $415 to $600 to stimulate the small town of Barnesville, PA.
House Speaker John Boehner said Congress acted on the agreement — hammered out in a week of intense negotiations with Nancy Pelosi — "at the earliest date, so that social security tax would be cut by 2 percent starting January 1, 2011."
"This is absolutely fantastic," says Jeremy Myers. "Another government paid golf trip sounds almost unbelievable. Can someone pinch me?"
Participants with an annual household income of $100,000 and kids could experience six-straight free golf trips from 2008-2013.
Nancy Pelosi was not entirely pleased with another free golf trip, but realizes their are working people who deserve some vacation(s).
President Barack Obama was not entirely pleased either, but sees the importance of stimulation. "This tax cut is like sending checks to almost everyone involved with the Carl Spackler Open. Please help America by drinking beer, playing golf, and buying goods and services along the way."
Brian Flanagan finally depleted his 2008 government stimulus in Texas. When asked about this social security tax cut, he replied, "This is incredible news. Normally I would be wondering where the money was actually coming from, but quickly realized the social security system has a surplus."
The 2011 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins on June 9, however President Obama is not expected to participate in the opening ceremony. There are 92 participants expected for the 54-hole golf tournament.
