BARNESVILLE, PA — The 2011 Carl Spackler Open completed this weekend with Jay Dilks winning the 54-hole event, steak dinner, deck party, and mascot participating in the Skills Challenge. All during a wonderful sunny afternoon in the mid-70's.

"It was clearly the most successful event in 11 years," says Greg Long, Chairman of the Captains Club. "The food, 54-hole tournament, and deck parties went off without a hitch. The fog on Saturday evening added drama to a very fun 4-man scramble."

The city of Virginia Beach minus Jean Dore and Trent Cooper posed with the gopher mascot on Sunday. "A great tournament on an unfair golf course," says William Harwell. "Regardless, Mike Kreer got his ass kicked."

Harwell and Kreer both posted dreadful 13-over 95's on Friday. Kevin Long fired an impressive 56 points on Friday to grab 6th position before folding like a lawn chair. Jean Dore posted a Virginia Beach best 4th position with 175 points.

One of the highlights came when Paul Mangione jumped out of a box during the Sunday deck party in a mankini. "That was as funny as it was disgusting," said Jim Munksgard, Sr. "It will take years to burn that image out of my mind."

The 11th event also included a brewery tour at Yuengling on Friday morning. Dick Yuengling joined the 60-minute tour and signed hats.

Lee Spruill of Greenville, NC lost the golf tournament. "The handicap system is rigged," yelled Spruill. "I am unjustly being treated like a hacker." The 3-time returning participant entered the golf tournament averaging 5.4 double-bogeys, 5.4 bogeys, and 2.2 pars. He carded just 2 pars and 11 bogeys through 54 holes.

Chris Milam's credit card bill on Sunday was enormous after hitting the first ever tournament hole-in-one at the 13th hole. Milam bought the entire field a drink at the clubhouse.

The 2011 Carl Spackler Open was played June 8-13. There were 95 golfers who participated in the annual event at Mountain Valley Golf Course.
