Summer Solstice Plus an Hour
April 3, 2022
PEORIA, IL — The 2022 Carl Spackler Open has a tournament field of 96 golfers from 19 different states. The 21st event will be held in Illinois at Metamora Fields Golf Club. The annual event will experience its longest daylight ever.
"The arrival day for the event is the longest day of the year," says Captains Club member Jason Ridgeway. "If that was not enough, most of the guys will be adding an hour when they travel into the Central Time Zone. June 21 is going to be a very long day."
Solstice, the two moments during the year, when the path of the Sun in the sky is farthest north in the Northern Hemisphere (June 20 or 21) or farthest south in the Southern Hemisphere (December 21 or 22).
At the summer solstice, the Sun travels the longest path through the sky, and that day therefore has the most daylight. "The sun will rise at 5:27AM on June 21 and 8:33pm that evening," added Ridgeway. "Add another hour as golfers travel from Eastern Time to Central Time."
Golfers using I-90 and I-80 will cross into Central Time just after South Bend, Indiana where as I-70 travelers will move into Central Time at the Illinois state line.
The Captains Club has hosted its event in June for a variety of reasons. One big reason is daylight. The event expects to tee early again in 2022 and also host a replay round on Friday afternoon. Phase 2 of participant options are expected to start in April 2022.
