Ego Absence
October 18, 2005
POWELL, OH — The walk from the practice tee to the first tee is the longest walk in golf. Great players like Marty Zabonik know how to make that transition without losing a step. He gets the most out of his practice sessions and takes that good swing to the course.
The key to good practice on the range and good play on the course: "Leave your ego in the car", says Zabonik. "Whether you're going to practice or to play, remember that you're an individual, that you have just 14 clubs, and that each of those clubs should only go so far. Relax and just let it happen." Marty Zabonik is one of those players who is always a few couples less than his partners and it seems to work for him.
Zabonik added, "Learn to live with that. Getting your ego all caught up in how far you hit your driver or your other clubs just kills your swing." Zabonik has been posting scorecards in the 70's for years. "Great golf requires tremendous focus and time involvement. I work especially hard on my putting."
Marty Zabonik is 1 of 37 players from Ohio. He holds 43rd position with 36.5 points per round. The On Tour Championship ends in 10 weeks. The Ohio golf season will sharply close very soon.
