Wisp gets Wiped
October 13, 2003
WINSTON-SALEM, NC — The Wisp had everything in line to bring a Carl Spackler event to Deep Creek, MD -- rental homes, entertainment, golf course and a prime-time location. But the Captain's Club vote 3-4 prevented the Wisp to host the 2004 Spackler Open. Instead it is now focusing on Winston-Salem, NC.
"We filed a request for bid with the Wisp and it looked great. The club just lost a close vote for 2004. "I really like the Wisp for 2005 or 2006," Jay Dilks said. "We have plenty of options and possibilities including paint ball, ski resort atmosphere and resort area entertainment."
These are the kind of problems the Captain's Club likes to have going into a vote. Greg Long, Chairman of the Club, read a brief statement. "The Wisp package was 8% higher than Tanglewood Park. "The cooperation with the Wisp was great this past summer. We just found a better opportunity for 2004."
Tom McCauley of New Albany, Indiana added, "It's a matter of finding the right combination of a date, golf course and accomidations", he said. "We are excited about another proposal in Allentown, PA for 2005. It was booked for 2004." The tournament letter of intent is scheduled to be mailed on November 15, 2003.
