Escape the Outfits
November 21, 2003
COLUMBUS, OH — CEO Jamie Myers announces today the signing of Ohio product and Chairman Greg Long, one of the nation's top amateur golfers, to compete for the Golden Jacket in June 2004. Slick, the winner of the 2001 Carl Spackler Open will be looking to win his 2nd jacket.
"Slick is expected to have an immediate impact in Round 1," said Myers. "He had the game to step into the top five within the first nine holes, but with his retirement from golf, he could very well slip down the leaderboard quickly. I can only hope the best for him, but his impact could be very much negative."
Slick was reached for comment on his signing. "I am glad to see the 4th annual Open. I personally have a handicap that cannot be matched during my first year of retirement", said Slick. "My focus in 2004 is second to last place, but if a complete disaster occurs, I will wear the Outfits with dignity. Being more focused on the tournament success is my goal rather than my daily scorecard. With the development of our tournament on the national level, we are now able to attract some of the best golfers in the country and that is exciting. Hopefully we can keep the talent returning year after year."
Slick did provide one last comment. "I do plan to get out to Winston-Salem early and play the optional practice round. These first swings of the year will be critical because of my lower handicap and lack of feel for my golf swing."
The Carl Spackler Open is scheduled for June 10, 2004. It is a 54-hole tournament, which will require 4 full kitchen passes for attendance. Slick is the 2nd player to sign an intent to play. The Captains Club is expecting 35-50 players to attend the Major Championship in North Carolina.
