Deadline in 21 Days
December 12, 2003
WINSTON-SALEM, NC — The Open is coming in 185 days. With only 3 weeks left before the signing deadline, all eyes are beginning to turn to player signings for the 2004 Carl Spackler Open in Winston-Salem, NC.
This year?s event has been scheduled for June 10th ? 12th, 2004 with a practice round available to participants on June 9th. The field is expected to be more competitive and the number of potential golfers registered with the website is a greater indication that the 4th Annual tournament will be a greater success then the first.
The first half of the signing period has guaranteed attendance by the Chairman of Captains Club and the winner of the 2001 Golden Jacket. It also guarantees the winner of the 2002 Spackler Outfit and the returning champion.
"There is a concern that the field could be decreased just based on the field to date", said Greg Long. "A lot of talk, but nearly zero checks." The past demonstrates a group of procrastinators, but usually a few checks come in each week. This year has seen almost nothing.
The absolute deadline for the event is January 2. Checks arriving after this date will be returned if the total field count is divisible by 4. Late checks will be accepted one by one until the total field count is divisible by 4. The rest of the checks are expected to be returned.
