Itinerary Restructured
January 12, 2004
WINSTON-SALEM, NC — With the Carl Spackler Open due to begin in just 149 days, the tournament itinerary has been revamped to include the best structure for ultimate entertainment. As the itinerary already includes prep tournament tasks and deadlines, the tournament week time is what's most important.
"We have really strived to make necessary scheduling changes from the first three years", said CEO Jamie Myers. "The big hitters are dual tees, Thursday morning player meeting, another golf contest and casino. We also asked Jay Dilks to work with players like Mike Watkeys that need help with their golf uniform." Myers refers to past years when players like Mike Watkeys wore undershirts on the golf course.
The Captains Club scaled back the required 72 holes to 54 holes in the 2003 event to help with the overall value of the weekend. The group added an optional 18 hole non-tournament event on Friday afternoon along with a softball game on Friday evening under the lights. They have also added a casino and player meeting to get everyone on the same page. With the increased player volume, the Captains Club has added dual tee times off both #1 and #10 on Thursday and especially on Friday to save valuable sleep time. Lastly, the Club moved the Saturday tee time up to 8am eastern time allow for increased entertainment on Saturday.
The detailed itinerary allows time for breakfast, transportation time to the golf course, multiple tee times, range time, player time for dinner, golf and plenty of rest. The field of 40 players should be as organized as ever. The full itinerary can be reviewed on the green official tournament section of the website.
