Opening the Kitchen
February 25, 2004
WINSTON-SALEM, NC — The wonderful Kitchen Pass Award is scheduled for an upbeat return in 2004. An award for the player that best represents the values of the "PWRP" and attends the trip regardless of family or outside pressures. "This award is very important because not just anyone has the ability to leave their wife at the hospital and attend the Carl Spackler Open", said Matt Davis, Vice President of the PWRP. These type of commitments cannot and will not be ignored.
Brian Flanagan won the Kitchen Pass Award last year with style along with the 2003 Stroke Award. These two honors were given to him one night before leaving on an early flight to the beach to see his family.
Flanagan planned to send his pregnant family of four in the van from Columbus, OH to the beach in North Carolina while he went to Madison, OH to win last year's major championship. Brian met his family after flying one way from Cleveland to Norfolk, VA and obtaining a shuttle to the beach.
"My pregnant wife really wanted to spend quality time with the three girls", said Flanagan. "What else can I say, but a major championship like Spackler ranks up there with my family." Brian placed 4th with 90 points within a field of 32 players even after a dismal performance in the final round. Brian then left the player housing early Sunday morning around 5:30am to catch a flight to Norfolk.
"The award was so easy to give out last year", said Pokey. "I hope they are always this easy, but then again, I hope everyone can obtain the kitchen pass like Flanagan. He should be a model in my magazine."
