No Mulligans
April 26, 2004
WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Golf is a simple game in concept, strike a ball with a club from a prepared area, known as the "teeing ground", across a fairway and rough to a another prepared area, known as the "putting green", which has a hole in it, and put the ball into the hole.
Some players believe in mulligans, but at the Carl Spackler Open there is no such opportunity. "This is a tournament", said Jason Watson. "We are talking about pure golf and by the rules and mulligans will be absent."
The 2004 tournament will be played over 3 days and 54 holes. The field consists of 48 players from 9 different states. Every stroke will be counted as the Golden Jacket and purse are at stake.
To shake out the cobwebs, the tournament includes complimentary range balls for all players starting one hour prior to first tee.
The Open Championship is scheduled to begin in 44 days at Tanglewood Park.
