Vickers Withdraws
May 12, 2004
WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Fresh off his stunning registration and letter of intent, Brandon Vickers withdrew Tuesday from the 2004 Carl Spackler Open.
A 31-year-old rookie, Vickers became the second player to withdraw from this year's Open Championship. Scott Miller withdrew last week leaving the field dry for 2 days. Joe Caridi signed immediately after hearing the news.
"The overwhelming experience of the Open Championship makes my stomach tingle, but personal commitments to my family are of most importance," Vickers said. "I hope to return next year."
"We would have been thrilled to have Brandon join us for the 2004 Carl Spackler Open," Jamie Myers said. "There are more important things for Brandon in June."
The 2004 Carl Spackler Open begins in 28 days. There are currently 47 players in the field and one spot open. It really looks like tournament staff will be busy over the next few weeks.
