Mobile Scoring

June 2, 2012

TERRA ALTA, WV — Everybody sees it every year: Double G and Randy hunkered down over a laptop in the cinema room entering scorecards into the site while everyone else is feeding their collective faces and pouring cupfuls of Woo Woo around them. Don't plan on seeing it to the same extent at GXVI.

"We are pleased to announce the launch of mobile scoring at GXVI," Randy said recently. "I, for one, am looking forward to getting some time back as a result of this." The developers behind poststats.com (Slick and his brother) have created a mobile platform that will allow groups to record scores directly into the site as individual holes are completed. "All you need is a smartphone with a decent signal in each foursome," Slick said when asked about the new product. "We have tested the capability of the platform in beta format, but will be putting it to use beginning June 6 at the Carl Spackler Open. 63 golfers will be playing, which is double the usual G attendance. If it works there, it should work in Terra Alta with no problem." One big change as a result of the new platform will be real time leaderboard updates. Loozers in the last groups will be able to see how Loozers in the early groups are faring. "Having real time scoring does not take absolve Whitey and JT of their leaderboard responsibility in the cabin," Randy said. "It adds a touch of class to the event, much like my wardrobe."

"As with any software package, it only works as well as the data that goes into it," Founding Father and IT expert Butter said when asked about the platform. "Because we know Loozers have trouble getting scorecards to match within a foursome, we're asking all groups to continue to keep paper scorecards that Watson and Garrett will compare to what was entered in the website. Hopefully their edits will be few and far between."

With the 100 day mark quickly approaching, plans are being finalized for GXVI. This year's trip fee and calendar should be released by June 15.
