Last Call (January 31)

January 24, 2013

SNOWSHOE, WV — Scott Miller, on behalf of the Captains Club, held the last press conference before the 3-month national signing period for the Carl Spackler Open expires on January 31. He provided some additional information while hitting balls at the range in Parkersburg, WV along with making himself available for a few questions regarding the tournament in West Virginia.

"Thank god the tournament has come to West Virginia. [pause] Last Call! Everyone has a few remaining days to get their checks postmarked," said the 9-year member of the event. "January 31. 120 bucks. Non-refundable. Non-transferable. It is cold as Antartica out here. Any questions?"

Jon Munksgard, a 9-time member representing Pennsylvania, stepped forward with a couple of questions. "What do you think the biggest change will be this year?" Miller who played scouted the resort in August thought for a moment and replied, "It is a very quiet secluded place where cell phones become stones. The quality of golf course is super and property is beautiful."

Munksgard replied, "Sounds great. Are there any other notable changes?"

Miller said, "We are sleeping, drinking and playing golf again. The core should be the same, but this year has the most loose itinerary in 13 years. The golf course is as difficult as Poplar Grove or Mountain Valley. The weather is very unpredictable with cooler temperatures than you might expect."

Senior member Mark Wray said, "I have a question. What do you see as the biggest risk as we move towards this year's event?" Miller replied, "The distance to airport for guys who are already flying is not convenient."

Miller glanced at his cell phone and said, "I will take one more question. It is brutally cold out here and I need to hit the rest of these balls."

Bill Bateson asked, "I am looking at the resort website and see these Green Zebra rentals. Is this included?" Miller replied, "It is included as a participant option with possible time allocated in the itinerary, but not included in the $397 required event fee. We are investigating the zebra opportunity with more information to come in March.

I gotta get back to hitting balls. Later."

In other news, the event attendance projection dramatically increased this week from 48 to 60 with surprise rookie registrations this month. The Captains Club is now expecting between 60 and 72 golfers to participate in June. Thomas Peckham (Michigan), Jason Harry (Virginia), and Tim Hagg (Pennsylvania) are rookies signed to participate.

The 2013 Carl Spackler Open begins in 133 days at Snowshoe Resort in Snowshoe, WV. There are 60 to 72 participants expected to participate in the 96-hour golf party. Event registration expires promptly at 11:59PM on January 31, 2013. Paid late-entries will be collected, held, and handled on April 18, 2013 when all cancellations are late-entries are known.
