Rumors & Speculation
Barnesville to Host 3rd Spackler
Ever Changing MT Valley

April 19, 2017

BARNESVILLE, PA — Everyone is already giddy about the Carl Spackler Open and ever changing Mountain Valley in eastern Pennsylvania. Past champions Marty Whalen, Allan Hench, Chad Long, Rick Dosky, Mike Trojanowski, Andy Hanks, Jay Myers, and Jay Dilks have registered for another installment of the event.

Mountain Valley hosted the 2011 Carl Spackler Open with a fresh 9 holes. The super facility has since expanded again to host nearly 100 weddings per year. Mountain Valley expanded over the past 5 years to include a pavilion overlook, outdoor restrooms, new pro shop, new banquet hall, remodeled clubhouse, new snack house, and new Par 3 on the cliff above Locust Lake State Park.

"Mountain Valley will feel very different once again," says Greg Long, Chairman of the Captains Club. "The overall facility has really expanded in all directions. I am expecting everyone to once again feel a different Mountain Valley."

The latest improvement is on the back side of the Mountain Course. "The 172-yard 16th hole was designed into the steep mountain drop offering a picturesque view of Locust Lake State Park," says Long. "It is one of those holes that will be remembered for decades."

Mountain Valley also added an overlook behind the 18th hole, which turned into a highly sought after wedding destination. "Mountain Valley is packed on Saturdays," said Long. "There is often two weddings, two wedding receptions, plus busy 36 holes of golf. The clubhouse is no longer open on Saturdays, but closed for private wedding receptions."

The hotel, Mainstay Suites, is another addition to the Mountain Valley umbrella. The hotel is located at the I-81 exit and will host all the players. A brand new pro shop and banquet hall have also been constructed on the grounds of Mountain Valley.

"Mountain Valley is very excited to host the 2017 Carl Spackler Open," added Long. "The red carpet has been rolled out for a third time. Everyone should look forward to a wonderful event."

The Carl Spackler Open is scheduled for July 12, 2017. There are 76 to 80 golfers expected for the 17th annual event. Golfers from 16 different states will make Barnesville, PA their home for the 96 hour golf party.
