Drozd Steps Up

BETHLEHEM, PA — Rookie Dave Drozd fired 53 points and 3 birdies over the weekend at Olde Homestead Golf Club just northwest of Allentown, PA.  Clearly his best round of the season.

The round of 81 strokes consisted of career high number birdies, career high pars, and nearly career high number of bogeys.

"Things were working today," says Drozd after his round.  "My chip in on uphill Hole 14 was the highlight."

Fellow partner Frank Frey, who shot 27-over par, was indeed happy with the play of Drozd.  "He played pretty good today," says Frey.  "It was heart-breaking to see Dave fall apart on Hole 18.  I think he really wanted to shoot in the 70's.  A true shame, but I'm sure the disaster at 18 will make him a stronger tournament golfer."

Pat Boland was asked to comment on the stellar round.  "These guys need to prepare for a major championship.  Olde Homestead is that kind of course, but 6,000 yards is too short and long iron play cannot be ignored.  Drozd played a great round of golf and that is encouraging.  Something I admired until noticed the yardage.  They both need to move back a few tees and hit the ball like true champions."

Drozd moved into 32nd place in the season-long On Tour Championship.

Olde Homestead Golf Club is located just 40 minutes east of Mountain Valley Golf Course.  The course was 1 of 4 courses nominated in fall 2004 for potential 2005 venue.  Mountain Valley was the choice of venue, but Olde Homestead is still considered a very strong candidate for 2015.
