Zavinski & Luppino File

RICHMOND, VA — Senior member, Scott "Z" Zavinski, has officially signed as the 50th player to play golf at the 2010 Carl Spackler Open Championship. The 4-time member of the event will enter this year's tournament with rookie Paul Luppino of Texas.

It has long been rumored that Zavinski would attend, but Z's sponsor, Mulligans Bar & Grill, would not allow an official press release until his check cleared and Scott promised that all his mulligans would be announced without a direct tie to the Bar & Grill.

"Z's physical skills alone could place him atop the Leaderboard for a day or two," says Captains Club member Kevin Long, Jr.. "However, it will remain to be seen whether or not he can stand up to the mental stress of playing his 4th major championship and against a strong tournament field."

Lost member of the Carl Spackler Open, Joe Butkus, has some doubts, "I have played hundreds of rounds with Scott, but not sure he can overcome the amount of pressure of a major championship."

Some existing members are worried about the increased level of competition. "I think Scott has what it takes", said Kevin Long, Jr. "I have seen him make a 3-foot putt with consistency. That is enough for me to not rule him out for the coveted jacket."

Zavinski returns after struggling in Virginia. The local finished in a tie for 63rd position, which disappointed his wife, friends, and family.

"I have nowhere to go, but up," says Zavinski of his chances in Texas. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to compete against such a talented field. To be on the same course as legends like Creighton, Dosky, and Myers is such a priveledge that I have to pinch myself often."

Rookie Luppino, a.k.a. Lupy, is a resident of Weatherford, TX. The rookie, who graduated from Warren Area High School in Warren, PA, enters the tournament as an 'A' player.

"He is solid golfer, but a horrible drinker," says Zavinski. "The police were called last July because there were reports of a man unconcious in the middle of a street outside a local bar. Paul will be managing my golf in Texas and I will be managing his alcohol."

The 2010 Carl Spackler Open Championship begins in 3 days. South Padre Island Golf Club was chosen to host the event back in November 2009. There are 51 or 52 participants expected to participate in the 10th annual birthday party.
