Tournament Cap

WESTERVILLE, OH — The Carl Spackler Open remains "open" with its event registration, however the 8th major championship will cap the field at 68 golfers due to available rooms in Peru, IN. The initial cap includes 34 rooms with two beds and alternatives for exceeding the cap will result in sharing of beds or very expensive single occupancy.

"We will start with a hard-nose cap at 68 golfers," said Chief Financial Officer of the Carl Spackler Open, Rick Dosky. "There is one hotel in Peru with 35 guaranteed rooms with two beds. There are 27 non-smoking rooms. We are distributing rooms using postmarked date."

Participants willing to share a queen bed will elevate the financial cap. Single occupancy participants can also push the tournament field upward.

The Captains Club will accept tournament registrations in order of postmarked date regardless of seniority. "We are avoiding the favorites game," said Rick Dosky. "Send checks today if you are attending. Just remember that I no longer live in Grove City, OH."

The tournament is expected to be sign betwen 64 and 72 golfers with multiple single occupancy requests. "You can never really gauge turnout," says Dosky. "However, this year I fully expect a cap in mid or late-December. Again, I recommend sending in your deposit early if you want your own bed, non-smoking room, and the lowest possible fee. With 3 signed participants, there are 65 spots remaining."

A reporter asked, "Are you serious about the number of hotels in Peru, IN?" Dosky replied, "There is a Knights Inn across the street, but consider it to be a couple steps down from the River Inn in Pottsville. There is nothing else within 20 minutes and we are not managing multiple hotels and safe transportation to them."

The Best Western Circus City in Peru, IN is considered to be the best lodging in the history of the tournament for many reasons.

"We suggest your non-refundable non-transferable $120 deposit is mailed early if you plan to attend," said Rick Dosky. "Send a check today if you wish. Just remember that I no longer live in Grove City, OH. Check the website address book for updated information."

Tournament officials did mention there is no disadvantage or risk behind mailing checks after the tournament cap. Excess participant checks will be torn up or placed on the waiting list.

The 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship will be held at Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru, IN. Formal registration will be available online starting this Thursday. The deadline for registration is postmarked by December 28 or reaching the cap of 68 golfers; whichever comes first.
