WARREN, PA — The Carl Spackler Open and its Captains Club announced the signing of John Sabat, Jr. to a national letter of intent for the June golf tournament. Sabat, a.k.a. Sab, returns after a dreadful 38th position in Michigan and 25th position in the 2007 Virtual Tournament.

"I am looking forward to playing in my second Spackler Open," said Sabat from his home in Clarendon, PA. "I am a man of excuses. I did not know what to expect last year. I agree with Joe Muscaro that not playing in the practice round really hurt us. This year will be different starting with the practice round. My main goal is to win, but I will be playing not to lose."

Sab must be able to find more grass and less hazards this year. John added, "With the pressure of a major championship such as Spackler, anything can happen. I need to be prepared for anything."

Jon Munksgard jumped in with a comment. "I am personally excited to be seeing Sabat back to our roster," said Munksgard. "Having someone who has won a few Jackson Valley outings is a step forward to Pennsylvania reclaiming its status of Golden Jacket worthy."

Munksgard was asked about Sab's game. "He is a strong ball-striker with the potential to put some big points on the board," added Munksgard. "He flew under the radar for years. Luckily for us, we had the chance to get another quality player to represent Warren and Pennsylvania. He is one of our best shots to win gold. The fact he does not drink bottles of Captains Morgan gives him tremendous responsibility."

The 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship will be played at Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru, IN. The tournament field is currently set at 64 golfers. Participants can select options and preferences for the golf tournament starting March 8.
