Trent Cooper Joins Field

April 21, 2008

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Captains Club member Jay Dilks announced this morning that Trent Cooper had signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf at the 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship at Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru, IN.

Cooper is from Virginia and wore his salmon colored shirt to his press conference. Cooper returns to action with an impressive resume' including a 3rd place finish in Michigan, 19th in North Carolina, and 12th in Pennsylvania. He also has collected awards for two "longest drives" and two "closest to the pins" in his three-year career.

"As you can see, I am a highly decorated and a good looking man," said Cooper. "My wife is shopping for a larger trophy case."

Jay Dilks said, "Trent is the perfect example of the type of player we want at Spackler. Someone that talks the talk, but can walk the walk. He is a wonderful combination of multi-sport competitiveness with outstanding excellence in the beer drinking department. He continues to be a goal-oriented person with the work ethic it takes to achieve them."

Jean Dore interrupted his announcement and said, "I remember last year when he tried to pick a fight with the bouncer at the Old Town Bar. The bouncer would have killed him. I am always on his back, but he needs to take a good punch before I will step in."

Cooper placed third in the tournament field of 62 in Michigan. The final round included a "tournament killer" three triple bogeys. He shot 18-over 90 strokes.

"I drove the 15th green," said Cooper. "Can Tiger do that?" Jean Dore replied, "Yes. Slick even did it. I noticed your driving distance for the 4-man Scramble is less than 250 yards. Are you publicly cheating or just stupid?"

Cooper replied, "I selected that after seeing Kevin's distance. He has 175-225 yards."

Dore said, "You both are a bunch of documented cheaters. When is Coop going to bring home a jacket to Virginia? You folded like a lawn chair in Michigan."

[Cooper made a 'Cooper-like' smurk]. He replied, "Jean. You are an idiot."

Cooper holds the Webb Award (best player in Spackler history) by a smidge over Jason Ridgeway and Pat Boland. He also holds the Golden Rod (best putter in Spackler history) by a smidge over Greg Garrett and Marty Zabonik.

Trent Cooper signs as the 64th golfer to the tournament field. Participant outstanding balances are due in the mail by noon on Saturday. There are 44 days left before Round 1.
