Gastesi Breaks Records

May 12, 2008

GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS, OH — Derek Gastesi just sent in his deposit when the opportunity presented itself in March. He never saw it coming. The Captains Club proudly announced today that Derek Gastesi, a.k.a. D-Roc, has broken a 3-year old Spackler attendance record. Derek signs as the 72th player for the 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship.

"What do I win?" asked Gastesi upon hearing the news.

The old 2005 record at Mountain Valley in Pottsville, PA hosted a tournament field of 68 participants. The D-Roc signing ensured the 72 participant count.

"It appears your tournament is growing once again," said Gastesi from his couch at home with a bag of Lays Potato Chips. "A 72 player tournament is common, but getting 72 kitchen passes for 96 hours is certainly a great achievement."

Derek Gastesi signed late, but in record fashion. The signing and full financial collection nearly ensures 5.8 percent record high growth.

"I'm extremely excited with Derek's late decision," Mike Davis said. "He has officially broken the Spackler signing record. He establishes the new record of 72 players to our tournament field. Needless to say, we are pleased."

Gastesi will represent a 23.2-stroke handicap and most likely double-digit rounds.

"We're fortunate to get someone with his workmanship on the golf course," says Davis. "He will benefit our program outside the golf bag significantly because of his exceptional golf clothing attire but also his personality."

D-Roc is focused on understanding the level of golf in which the Spackler Open will demand with players like Chris Philipsen and Scott Miller. I believe he's yet another key to the piece of the puzzle for us in becoming a very large national tournament," added Davis.

The 2008 Carl Spackler Open will provide shuttle bus service this year to all participants. Bus service will be available to/from the golf course on Thursday and Friday. The shuttle service will also be available on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday nights.
