Stuck It Again; Hole in One

May 10, 2007

SELLERSBURG, IN — The winner of the 2004-2005 Closest to the Pin Contest has stuck it again. Captains Club member Tom McCauley did the impossible on Thursday with a USGA certified hole-in-one at the brand new Champions Pointe.

"It was incredible," said McCauley of the 183-yard ace. "Even when you hit the ball as good as me, you can still be surprised."

Champions Pointe will not officially open until June. Fuzzy Zoeller, a couple of owners, the USGA ratings team, and head pro tried the new course on Thursday. Tom McCauley joined the head pro for a round and played behind the USGA team.

Tom opened with a bogey on Hole 1. He headed to the second hole where he waited for the USGA to finish their business. "They were walking off the green when I hit my shot," said McCauley. "It hit the green and rolled straight for the hole. My first hole in one."

McCauley was officially the 7th person to play the new course. "Fuzzy took my ball for the Covered Bridge clubhouse trophy case," said McCauley. "I am now a part of course history."

McCauley continued to beat up Champions Pointe scoring 88 points with his  ace pumping in 14 points. The course bonus from 7,154 fuzzy tees contributed an astounding 40 points.

"I am really starting to play well," said McCauley. "It is great to have the Grande Golf Club coming up in the next few weeks. This might be my chance at the prestigous jacket."

McCauley returned home after his ace and got Matt Davis wasted. His next item of business is pampering Greg Garrett, Brian Long, and Greg Long next weekend in Louisville. McCauley will join them for 36 holes of golf and some Chinese massages.
