PERU, IN — Records are all about extremes. Beer consumption records may be considered even more extreme, because they are related to an external substance that inspires the most imaginative innovation in the human brain.

These consumption levels enhance our lives with a bit of diversion, while putting smiles on countless faces. The Carl Spackler Open Championship broke all-time records this week at Rock Hollow Golf Club. Records that almost become unbelievable until you consider 90 degree temperatures, safe shuttle service, no spouse, no kids, great times, and very cheap beverages.

"The numbers are in," said Tom McCauley after returning to home on Sunday to Sellersburg, IN. "We have double-checked with Todd Smith. The golf tournament field consumed 1,920 beers, 25 smoothies, 301 bottles of water, and 305 bottles of gatorade for a grand total of 2,551 beverages."

Jeremy Myers (shown in picture) consumed more than his portion of the 35 beverages over 78 holes. He took a power nap during the practice round on Wednesday.

The tournament field also consumed 100 beers in 100 seconds during the Zavinski 100 on Thursday morning.

"This is just Rock Hollow," says McCauley. "We are waiting on the numbers from Homer's Sports Bar, Whiskey River, and Best Western Circus City. We expect 1,100-1,300 additional beverages."

Tom McCauley also noted the tournament consumed 62 hotdogs, 78 cheeseburger dogs, and 95 deli sandwiches from the clubhouse. Add another 72 meals on Friday in the clubhouse between rounds.

The 2008 Carl Spackler Open Championship was played last week in Peru, IN. Harold Anderson won the 8th annual event with 189 points. Don Creighton wore the Carl Spackler Outfit after a dreadful final round.
