POWELL, OH — Bill Bateson carded a career best 8-over 80 at Scioto Reserve Golf & Athletic Club in Powell, OH on Sunday. The 72-point effort is also a career high and good enough for a lead in the 2008 Virtual Tournament.

"Things are looking very strong right now," said Bateson of his round. "I choked and almost threw my 5-iron through the pro shop window."

Bateson did card another 8-over 80 back on August 20, 2006. He also carded an 80 at Phoenix Golf Links and Rolling Meadows Golf Course several years ago.

"He looks strong," says Brian 'Butter' Flanagan. "He might consider just quitting golf for a few weeks. Everyone should take a few weeks of mental health and enjoy a great accomplishment."

Bateson carded 11 pars and 6 bogeys.

"You can tell the possibility of the high 70's was in his head down the stretch," said Mike Davis of Warren, PA. "Bill was even par on the back nine. He was just 4-over par when he arrived to the 16th tee. He got the butterflies and the lawn chair folded."

Bateson takes over the top spot in the Virtual Tournament with 67.0 points per round. He takes the lead after Kelly Smith, Andy Hanks, Jason Watson, Thomas Henkel, and Scott Zavinski had momentary leads.
