VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — The best amateur players in the world have waited long enough. With a swagger to his step, the Captains Club announced the date of the 2009 Carl Spackler Open Championship. Senior member Trent Cooper did the honors.

"On behalf of the Captains Club, I am pleased to announce that the 9th annual Carl Spackler Open Championship will take place on the 2nd weekend of June 10-13, 2009. The practice round will be sixteen days after Memorial Day and twelve days prior to Father's Day."

A date sounds simple and without thought," said Cooper, a.k.a. Ms. Lacey Underall. "But a lot of guys will make excuses in February if the date is not stationary and announced nearly a year in advance."

Cooper continued to read the press document. "The club picked the month of June again for its 7th straight year", said the very confident Ms. Lacey Underall Award Winner.

The only conflicts known with the date continue to be a few spouse birthdays, some teacher availiability, and future high school graduations.

"We love our bermuda grass very green and our northern oaks in full bloom," said Cooper.

The inaugural tournament was held in Myrtle Beach in a very cold March 2001. The tournament immediately pushed towards a summer classic by holding the 2002 Open in 90-degree temperatures in Williamsburg, Virginia during mid-April. The championship moved to June when the tournament was held in northeast Ohio in 2003.

The date of choice ensures incredibly hot temperatures are avoided in the south while Michigan and New York have a confortable summer feel. The date also is devised to avoid rusty swings, football season, weddings, mid-summer vacations, wedding anniversaries and April showers.

"This gives our group complete focus outside their families on the tournament, golf, and Golden Jacket," said Cooper. "In closing, the Captains Club is looking forward to it's 9th major championship. A venue announcement is expected in 17 days." Cooper then departed with his Yeungling to a local pub with other members to discuss the possibility of the local Riverfront Golf Club becoming the 2009 venue.

The Captains Club now moves their focus to a 2009 tournament location. The major championship is expected to make a move into the Appalachian Mountains or Riverfront Golf Club in Suffolk, VA. Carl Spackler has been trucking around in search of the perfect golf experience. Carl understands the importance of a quality track, services, and local entertainment.

The Red Zone Alert has returned for its 6th season. At this time, there has been no talk of pregnancy with the business office. Participants can begin to send their deposits into Rick Dosky or wait for official registration on November 15.
