No Bus Scheduled
January 17, 2013
SNOWSHOE, WV — The #1 amateur golf tournament in America, Carl Spackler Open, and their Captains Club have plans to return this year with the most efficient daily setup since South Padre Island, TX. In the process, the event announced it will not provide bus or taxi service for the first time in 9 years. It will be the first year since 2007 without bus service.
The distance between clubhouse and lodging is 1/2 mile and second shortest distance behind South Padre Island Golf Club. The 5th tee box is 250 yards from the Inn.
The distance between Fiddlehead nightlife and lodging is 1/8 mile and similar distance to Binghamton, NY.
The lodging location removes drinking and driving after golf with simple car pooling or walking. It also allows for walking after a night at Fiddlehead. The general locale decreases fuel costs, decreases transportation time, and allows for additional relaxation.
"We are very satisfied with the opportunities in the village of Snowshoe," says Vice President of Tournament Transportation, Don Creighton. "The primary goal is to provide an environment that promotes fun and safety. We have found that in Snowshoe, WV."
The lack of shuttle service is one reason the 2013 Carl Spackler Open has the 2nd lowest event fee ($397) in event history behind the 2005 event.
"One of the most undervalued and hidden aspects to planning is the lost transportation time each morning and afternoon," says Creighton. "To move 60 to 80 people anywhere consumes more time than most realize. It is critical to establish an event with safe transportation, however organized transportation eats up a packed itinerary, which eats up sleeping time. Snowshoe is expected to add 1 1/2 hours sleeping time and 4 hours of extra sleep over the entire event."
The base of the mountain within Snowshoe Resort consists of the golf course, Inn, and Fiddlehead. The top of the mountain consists of the ski resort, majority of restaurant/bars, and majority of lodging. The distance between Inn and top of mountain is 1 mile by crow, but 10 minute drive.
The 2013 Carl Spackler Open begins on June 6 with the annual practice round. There are 24 golfers signed to participate in the 13th annual Spackler birthday party. Event registration continues through January 31 with late-entries collected until April 18.
