Mountain Valley Opens Hotel

August 26, 2014

BARNESVILLE, PA — The Captains Club announced that Mountain Valley Golf Course has not only talked about building a hotel, but built it and opened it off the Mount Valley Golf Course/I-81 exit in Barnesville, PA. The Main Stay Suites would serve as Carl Spackler Open headquarters during a future event.

The hotel, located 2 1/2-miles from the clubhouse will feature 32 guest rooms with 2 queen beds and 13 rooms with one queen bed with sofa bed. The brand new rooms are equipped with refrigerator, cabinets for liquor, freezer with ice, desk for laptop, dishwasher, and sink.

"We are pleased to share the exciting news coming out of Barnesville," says Chairman of the Captains Club Greg Long. "The Main Stay Suites is owned by Mountain Valley and has a free shuttle to/from golf course. We cannot be more pleased by the newest opportunity."

Mountain Valley has continued with its long-term plan to be the greatest golf trip destination on the planet. The facility was opened in 1960. In 1997, Mountain Valley enlisted international course designer Ault, Clark & Associates to redesign the existing 18 holes and to add 9 holes. In 2007, Mountain Valley added four more holes east of Oak #6 (picture shown of one hole). These four new holes, the nine holes of Maple, and five holes from the Oak nine are now the 'Mountain' course. In 2010, Mountain Valley added five new holes east of Oak #3. These five new holes, the nine holes of Pine, and four holes from the Oak nine are now the 'Valley' course.

Mountain Valley management expanded its clubhouse deck party in 2011 with a new Sunday evening deck party. The opening of the new hotel also expanded the Friday night deck party from 6:00pm to 1:00am. The general bar and restaurant hours have also expanded.

"Mountain Valley Golf Course has always been on our radar for another Carl Spackler Open," says Long. "The new hotel, expanded clubhouse bar hours, and shuttle service ensures a return of the Carl Spackler Open to Mountain Valley. It is not expected to happen in 2015, but Mountain Valley is one of those special events we will always keep in our back pocket."

The 2015 Carl Spackler Open location is being explored. Tennessee and Ohio lead the options to host. Another date change will address the high school graduation conflicts.
