MARSHALL, MI — Today, the Captains Club unveiled a slight adjustment to the optional Friday 4-man Shamble, a unique team event within the Carl Spackler Open. With an anticipated field of 28 or 29 players, excitement is brewing for the forthcoming competition.

"We've got some thrilling updates for this year," shared Marty Whalen, a distinguished member of the Captains Club. "Our revisions to the replay round will usher in a shift from the traditional scramble to a shamble."

The reimagined shamble format brings nuanced changes to the customary round. Under this arrangement, each foursome pairing forms a cohesive team, splitting into two pairs of players. The primary goal is to streamline gameplay and elevate engagement among participants.

While the core scramble rules remain unchanged, several adjustments have been introduced:

(1) Team players will tee off from their designated tournament tees. Should time constraints arise, players may tee off from the red tees, although Ridgeway and Grider might humorously (or not) find themselves challenged with the tips!

(2) Par 4's and Par 5's are approached uniquely, with Group 1 initiating play, followed by Group 2's second shot. Subsequently, all four players collaborate in a four-man scramble to complete the hole. The process reverses for subsequent Par 4 or 5 holes.

(3) Par 3's deviate from the norm, with all four team players teeing off and navigating the hole in a conventional scramble fashion.

(4) The maximum allowable score on a hole is capped at bogey. Groups will be dispatched in pairs of two foursomes.

Mark your calendars for the 2024 shamble, slated for Friday, June 7th, following Round 2. Expect the event to kick off with a shotgun start. With generous gimmies and yardage adjustments aligned with daylight, the prepaid cost stands at $30, promising an exhilarating experience for all participants.
