Downplaying a Repeat
January 3, 2002
COLUMBUS, OH — CEO Jamie Myers announces today the signing of Ohio product and Chairman Greg Long, one of the nation's top amateur golfers, to compete for the Golden Jacket in April 2002. Slick, the winner of the 2001 Carl Spackler Open will be looking to repeat.
"Slick is expected to have an immediate impact in Round 1," said Myers. "He has the game to step into the top five within the first nine holes.? Slick has also been instrumental in attracting additional talent to next year?s field of players. Slick commented, ?I?m not concerned with winning this thing. If it happens, I will wear the jacket with dignity. I?m more focused on the tournament success. With the development of our tournament on the national level, we are now able to attract some of the best golfers in the country. Hopefully we can keep the talent returning year after year."
Slick added, ?There is way to many talented players to even consider myself as good. Davis, McCauley and Miller to name a few. I do plan to get out to Williamsburg early and play a practice round, but I?ll probably be in the jacuzzi most of the weekend because I will be so sore.?
The Carl Spackler Open is scheduled for April 18, 2002. It is a 72-hole tournament, which will require 4 full kitchen passes for attendance. Slick is the 5th member of Captain?s Club to sign an intent to play.
