New Tournament Tees
TERRA ALTA, WV — In the spirit of continually looking for ways to energize and add excitement to our tournament, we are happy to announce that for GXXVII we will be adjusting tee boxes on a daily basis. This change is meant to give the course a different look each day, but also provide excitement by making some holes easier and possibly more enjoyable on certain days.
In order to accomplish this, the following criteria will be used:
1. Each hole will be played from all 3 tee locations (Forward/Red, Middle/Gold and Back/White) during the 3 round tournament
2. During each round, 6 holes will be played from the most Forward tee boxes, 6 holes from the Middle tee boxes, and 6 holes from the Back tee boxes. This would be the equivalent of Red/Gold/White.
3. The course was divided into 3 groups by handicap. So the 1-6 handicap holes will have 2 Forward tee boxes, 2 Middle tee boxes and 2 Back tee boxes each day.
4. To aid in understanding which tee box to use on each hole each day, your scorecards and tee sheets will be marked accordingly. In addition, Quack has been able to secure special tee box markers to identify where to tee off from. Simply play from the G tees!
For reference, we have traditionally played from the White tees.
When asked how this will add excitement to the round, GStan responded, "How could it not? Imagine playing 12 as a 290 yard par 4, groups will be able to hit their tee shots over the gulley." Quack then quickly chimed in, "Or playing 15 and already being at the top of the hill, no more losing balls into those damn trees."
The biggest advantage probably comes at hole 17; when playing from the forward tee box, the hole quickly converts from a 590 yard par 5 into a 413 yard par 5!
And in another twist, to give more players an opportunity, each day will see the Closest to the Pin holes being played from the forward tees. This changes the average distance of a par 3 from 193 yards to 156 yards.
We look forward to these changes and the excitement they bring, along with many more birdie horns!
