Little Mountain Pursued

August 29, 2013

CONCORD, OH — The Carl Spackler Open announced today it has added a second course from the state of Ohio to its 2014 Carl Spackler Open venue list. Little Mountain Country Club, which is located just east of Cleveland, provides value and one of the nicest golf courses in Spackler history.

"Little Mountain has been scouted twice in the past 5 years in hopes its green fee would drop into our budget," says Chairman of the Captains Club Greg Long. "It has done just that with May 14-17 availability, ample lodging, and nightlife."

Little Mountain Country Club offers generous fairways, rolling terrain, and as many sand traps as any course in the region. It offers a nice mix of long and short holes, wonderful playing conditions and distant views of Lake Erie from its highest points, but it is likely to be the bunkers that dominate conversation following a round. Finding yourself in some of the deeper traps will lead to thoughts of just getting out, as opposed to getting up and down to save a score.

Designed by Ohio-based Hurdzan and Fry Design, Little Mountain is a residential course with an emphasis on golf - not homes. That's not to say the houses aren't beautiful, only an afterthought while playing.

A true target-golf layout, well-positioned shots are paramount as you make your way through the round. Risk-reward opportunities abound, offering players equal chances to attack or play it safe.

"Just waiting on a basic bid before investigating the event detail," says Long. "We have been given the go ahead in regards to 80-golfer availability."

The search and negotiations continue throughout Ohio, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Tennessee in hopes of finding another great opportunity. Little Mountain Country Club joins River Islands (TN), The Golf Club at Chapel Ridge (NC), Old Silo Golf Club (KY), and Shaker Run Golf Club (OH) as potential hosts for the 2014 Carl Spackler Open. There 60 to 80 golfers expected for the 14th annual event.
