STERLING, VA — Glenn Hoffert, the 7-time member of the Carl Spackler Open Championship, surprised everyone with quick signing to play golf in Texas. Hoffert, a.k.a. Jim, will make the trip from northern Virginia and boasts a 17.8 stroke handicap.

The 2005 Crapper Award Winner and owner of the 2005 Al Czverik Outfit is the 28th best player in Spackler History. He rocketed up the all-time list into 29th position after incredible 2006 and 2007 tournaments where he played inside the Top 8.

"It is great that my attendance is finally official," says Hoffert from his home in Virginia. "I am looking to challenge for the Golden Jacket and I say, the more wind the better. Playing golf in Ireland this passed July taught me what it is like to play coastal courses with prevailing winds.  If played properly, the wind can be your friend."

Hoffert will chase history at South Padre Island Golf Club where the fairways are wider than his power fade. Additional success must be found on the very quick greens.

Jim secured his place in the tournament earlier this week with two one-way $102 Southwest Airline tickets.

"It is my understanding that everything is bigger in Texas," says Hoffert. "Looking forward to seeing if that is true."

Glenn signs as the 5th golfer to a very talented list of players. He plans to participate in the afternoon version of the practice round. There are 140 days before Round 1.
