Rich Armstrong Returns

January 4, 2010

COLUMBUS, OH — The Captains Club proudly announced the signing of their 10th participant to a national letter of intent. Rich Armstrong has firm plans to play golf at the 2010 Carl Spackler Open Championship and continue his ongoing relationship with Carl Spackler.

"We are excited that Rich has decided to attend our national golf event," says fellow Ohioan Chris Philipsen. "Rich should be a great fit into our field of players. We are impressed with his 11.9 stroke handicap, which clearly grants him "A" status in our field of players. We see a great desire in him to play golf at the highest level."

Armstrong was asked by the local media to comment on his decision to sign. "Under intense peer pressure from two Spackler veterans, Chris Philipsen and Matt Pritchard, I decided to throw my hat into the ring for this year's tournament," he said. "They both made eloquent arguments in favor of the tournament which included the quality of golf, the beer, the nightlife, the beer, the team events, and the beer. After carefully weighing the positives against Matt's daily visits to my cube to remind me to enter, I have purchased a $74 + tax airline ticket to Houston, TX and committed to the tournament."

Pritchard was asked to comment on Rich's decision to attend. "Definitely a contender," added Matt Pritchard. "He's strong with the flat stick, and good with the irons, the wedges, and the driver. He doesn't have one weakness in his game. The only thing missing is multiple major tournament experiences, and he'll unquestionably get that this year."

Rich returns to the event after a year off to golf in Europe. The 2008 rookie is hoping to open the tournament in stronger fashion this time around. He opened the Peru, IN installment of Spackler with just 35 points and 55th position. He recovered a smidge on Friday and Saturday to finish in 41st position.

Armstrong signs as the 4th participant to represent Ohio. There are 100 days until the 2010 Carl Spackler Open Championship. An Awards Dinner and Presentation is set for April 18 at Bayside Cafe in Laguna Vista, TX.
