Randy's Green Jacket

September 26, 2004

TERRA ALTA, WV — Jason Watson, the winner of the 2002 MELC Championship at Golfapalooza, fell last week from top to bottom.  The Golfapalooza crew awarded his last place finish with the dreadful "Green Jacket".

Watson scored 37 points in the first round that settled him into a tie for 10th place.  His nightmare started Friday when he scored only 22 points and fell to a 3-way tie for 16th place.

After Round 2, Watson was tied with Don Sprague, the defending champion, and Mark Kaniecki.  Eric Kaniecki was in last place.  During the final round of play, Don Sprague scored an extra point to ensure 18th place to escape the Jacket.  Watson lost the tournament by one single point.

"It was rough out there," said Watson after the loss.  "The weather really hurt my game."  Watson has been noted for his comprehensive notebook over the years.  "How can someone expect to play well with sunshine and absolutely no wind at all?  I just did not have the game for such conditions."

Watson becomes the first player in Golfapalooza history to win and lose the MELC Championship.  Randy Watson is scheduled for a few interviews on Monday and then returns home for a well deserved rest.
