ST. LOUIS, MO — The Captains Club continues its expansive search for the 2023 Carl Spackler Open host location. The event has been bouncing around several dates, but believes four dates are possible including a week in April, June, and July 2023.

“The search for golf course availability has not improved since Covid-19,” says Chairman of the Captains Club Greg Long. “It’s probably getting worse. It’s a very large problem while managing golf course fees that have risen 30 percent. We have to expand the possibilities, which includes event date.”

The 2023 Carl Spackler Open is not likely to be held in July, but July 12 is in the mix. The practice round would not be held on Wednesday, June 21, but Thursday, June 22. The Carl Spackler Open also has April 12 possibility if the host location is south of Virginia.

“We are actively working on an event date because it’s important to announce and get circulated,” said Long. “Especially if it’s in April.”

The Carl Spackler Open has been held once in mid-March, once in mid-April, once in mid-May, twice in mid-July, and 15 times in early June. The event was held for the first time on June 22 in 2022.

The 22nd Carl Spackler Open has begun its search, but ruled out Riverfront Golf Club in Virginia and Otter Creek in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada.
