Conklin Players Club Eliminated
October 20, 2022
CONKLIN, NY — In the heart of the southern tier of New York is one of America's most spectacular golf courses. Conklin Players Club in Conklin, NY is a stunning 18-hole championship golf course featuring incredible views of the valley below.
Conklin Players Club was contacted and eliminated from the Carl Spackler Open venue list. The Golf Digest 4 1/2 star course is located just 10 miles north of the Pennsylvania border and 2 hours north of Mountain Valley on Interstate 81.
"We have history in Binghamton area," says Dave Osborne of the Captains Club. "Conklin has not wanted to communicate availability for unknown reasons. We move on looking for a 2023 venue."
Conklin Players Club hosted the 2012 Carl Spackler Open. Andy Hanks won that event with an eagle in the final round.
"The best conditions in Spackler history," says Captains Club member Jason Ridgeway. "The owners take the condition of the golf course personally. It was flawless back in 2012 and the layout was fun."
The course combines the use of water, dramatic elevation changes and 'tender loving care' to provide some fantastic holes and some awesome vistas to go along with it. The course plays up and down the side of a hill. That, in combination with a series of small ponds and a 10-acre lake make for some outstanding golf.
"Tree lined with a few water hazards, but wide fairways and playable rough," says Greg Long, Chairman of the Captains Club. "Well placed shots can really shave some strokes off your score. A good short game will also keep your scores low. The long hitter will love the front nine. The accurate hitters will love the back nine. The hackers will love the views."
The Captains Club continues to create a list of possible venues for the 2023 Carl Spackler Open. Conklin Players Club joins Ravenwood Golf Club in New York as golf courses that have been silent throughout the summer and early fall. The 2023 Carl Spackler Open does not have a date or location. An announcement is expected before November.
The event has eliminated Ravenwood Golf Club and Conklin Players Club in New York, Riverfront Golf Club and Rock Harbor in Virginia, Rock Hollow in Indiana, Belmont Lake in North Carolina, Mountain Valley and Iron Valley in Pennsylvania, Penn National in Pennsylvania, Black Lake in Michigan, Otter Creek in Canada, Ravenwood in New York, and Totteridge in Pennsylvania. The 2023 Carl Spackler Open will be held June 22-25, 2023.
