Blue Ridge Shadows Joins List

October 15, 2022

FRONT ROYAL, VA — Nestled in the tranquility of Virginia's historic Shenandoah Valley, and surrounded by breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the golf course will challenge not only the most discriminating golfer but, with five sets of tee boxes ranging from 4,994 to 7301 yards, promises a pleasurable experience for senior players.

The Captain's Club announced today that Blue Ridge Shadows was added as a possibility for the 2023 Carl Spackler Open. The golf course and nearby hotel have full availability for June 22-25.

"The quote and availability are there for 92 golfers," says the Chairman of the Captain's Club Greg Long. "Chris Price visited the golf course and conditions are more than questionable, but it is an option. We have something in our pocket moving towards decision day."

Crooked Run Creek and five lakes come into play on eight holes and the 48 bunkers would have golfers thinking about their next shot. The eleventh and thirteenth holes share a 120-yard wide double green.

"The golf course is far from conditioned like Pinon Hills and Metamora Fields," said Chris Price after his round. "The size and availability of facilities for 92 golfers in Front Royal are worthy of hosting a Carl Spackler Open, but it's whether something else is desired by the Captain's Club."

The course boasts a wide diversity of topography and holes, with the front nine winds through a majestic hardwood forest in the upper reaches of the property. While the back nine has tremendous elevation change as it goes back and forth from the flood plain to the upper elevations.

"We have a third option for June 22-25, 2023," added Long. "We continue to push forward looking for additional choices to host our 22nd event."

Blue Ridge Shadows joins Island Hills in Michigan, Juliette Falls in Florida, Cutter Creek in North Carolina, Cypress Landing in North Carolina, and Boulder Creek in Ohio as options for the 2023 Carl Spackler Open. An announcement is expected prior to November. Demand for participation is expected to require a maximum number of golfers regardless of location.
