October 21, 2022
MALONE, NY — The #1 amateur golf tournament in the United States, Carl Spackler Open, once again ruled out a 36-hole golf course due to availability.
"We really love the location near Montreal, Quebec," says Captains Club member Greg Long. "I truly love the opportunity to not just go north, but very north and experience crisp air."
Celebrated golf architect Robert Trent Jones transformed the Malone Golf Club taking the best elements of the existing Malone 18-hole course, designed by the legendary Donald Ross and Willard G Wilkinson, Jones added his unique design and challenge.
The East Course has a dynamite front nine originally designed by Donald Ross and Willard G Wilkinson in the 1930s. A 1991 Golf Week Magazine article rated it the Best Pure Classic Nine in the world and said it includes a fabulous Redan, a roller coaster short par-five, and pure-links style bunkering."
The West Course calls for the best in concentration and execution. It is a diverse layout of rolling tree-lined fairways with strategically placed, massive white sand traps. Robert Trent Jones layout was best described in a New York Golf magazine article The challenges are numerous: strong wind effect, major water hazard, serious trouble behind the green and sand bunkers ringing the putting surfaces."
The Malone venue would be hosted and played in Malone, New York. A number of hotel options are present when golf course availability presents itself.
The 2023 Carl Spackler Open continues to struggle to locate vacancies for 4 straight mornings including a weekend. The event has decided on June 22 and has a few options to consider including Virginia, Michigan, and North Carolina.
