Thornapple Pointe Occupied

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — The Captains Club announced today that Thornapple Pointe has been contacted and immedaitely declined our request for availability. The beautiful golf course outside Grand Rapids has been eliminated as a 2023 Carl Spackler Open venue.
"We are once again disappointed with availability," says Chairman of the Captains Club Greg Long. "We have casted a net across eastern America and it has not returned much excitement."
Thornapple Pointe Golf Club in Grand Rapids is an expansive championship design situated along the banks of the Thornapple River. This finely conditioned layout meanders along gently rolling hills, through hardwood-lined fairways, and near three of the most enchanting, untouched wetlands found in the Midwest.
The course can be quite challenging from the middle to back tees, and is very playable for the average golfer from the front sets. Besides the 8 holes with water hazards and 64 sand bunkers situated along the landing zones or greenside, golfers will have to contend with tall native high grasses that await offline approaches. A unique feature is the half moon shaped sand traps found on quite a few holes.
Thornapple Pointe joins a lengthy list of golf courses who do not have availability for 320 rounds of golf over 4 days. There are some options present that include Alabama in May, Florida in June, North Carolina in June, Virginia in June, and Ohio in July.
