The following is an explanation regarding roommates and golf pairings for the Carl Spackler Open. There were 673 preferences collected from the option selector and they have been reviewed.

Rookies are assigned to their top preference and available on the website today. All other roommates are paired up using Tuesday night reservations, best interests of 88 golfers, and suggestions provided by the participants.

The daily golf pairings are not finalized until you have a pairing sheet in your hand. There are rounds of golf on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Friday evening. All pairings for all of these rounds were built starting with the rookies and their top preference. The rest of the pairings were based on the hundreds of preferences collected and then moved around for pace of play reasons.

Everyone except 1 person will be playing with their top preference. Everyone except 3 people will be playing with their top 2 preferences. Everyone except 13 people will be playing with their top 3 preferences. Everyone except 6 people will play with half or more of their total preferences. There are 6 people that got lucky and will be playing with 10 preferences.

Pairings with tee times for Wednesday are in order based on distance from your residence to Poplar Grove. The exceptions are the 36 participants with Tuesday night reservations. Chris Philipsen and Greg Garrett will be first off the tee Thursday to score the tournament. Brian Long will join Garrett and Philipsen on Friday and Saturday and tee first. Participants who are skipping the practice round are pushed back to late tee times on Thursday to allow for maximum practice time.

There is a baseball game on Thursday night. The seats are assigned using tickets and distributed at the player meeting. The seating at the game carries over the unmatched golf preferences. Each participant will have a seat next to their top preference who they are not paired with at the golf course. This ensures everyone without exception will play golf or watch the baseball game with at least half of their golf preferences. The baseball game seating is expected to be similar to a wedding reception. Grab your assigned seat so the group remains organized and then feel free to move around during the game.

Note: Playing on another team inside the same eightsome is considered a match in regards to playing preferences.

There were more than a few participants who decided not to select their local friend or roommate preference as a golf partner. They are still matched in many cases because their local friend selected and ranked them very high.
